First, I would like to thank you all for the opportunity to speak to you today. I would like to dedicate my speech to my Mummum, Grandmom, Mom, Dad and sister Luci.
Hello Class of 2026 – congratulations – we have made it to the finish line. Our consistent effort and dedication over these past four years grants this incredible moment to walk on stage and receive our diplomas in the coming hour. We become the first graduating class of Abington to navigate four years in the expanded high school building, redefining the expectations of our school district.Â
While we as a graduating class are incredibly diverse, our experiences these past four years have united us as we prepare for the different paths we take in the future. One of these milestones was our state championship soccer team, who unified our school and community, teaching us lessons along the way.Â
After the parade, I talked with a friend on the team. He told me he and his teammate had once considered quitting due to the difficult circumstances leading into the season.Â
Think about that, two future starters considered quitting before their legendary season even began. Ultimately, they endured and are living proof of the power of perseverance. By making that decision, they had already won.
Our own drive to excel has made each effort in the classroom, towards career preparation, club or community service, worthwhile. However, despite our drive to look into the bright future, we must always remember to stay present.Â
Last year, I explained to my guidance counselor Mr. Vouriotous, how I felt the struggles in my life prevented me from enjoying the moment. Without hesitation, Mr. Vouritoius told me the best piece of advice I’ve ever heard. He explained how life often consists of living for what’s next. In this never-ending cycle, we rarely appreciate the moments it takes to get there. And consequently, we don’t take the time to appreciate how far we’ve come. No matter what stage of your journey you are on, today, on this night, take the time to look around and appreciate what you have achieved. As you do, you may begin to also reflect on the people you’ve shared the journey with.
This year, I routinely noticed students bombard Mrs. Roher with questions in her classroom during lunch. Regardless of what she was preoccupied with, she always took the time to listen to what each student had to say.Â
The reason being is that she sees each student as equally important as the other. And in this way, she embodies what it means to live a life devoted to others. In whichever path you take, remember, one of the greatest meanings to life are the relationships you nurture along the way.Â
Over the past four years, we have held the responsibility to set the standard for our school district and have thrived. In the coming years, our circumstances will change, but the responsibility remains the same. Embrace every moment there is to come, continue to raise the bar and go change the world. Thank you.
