Last Wednesday, the Bob Does Sports Youtube Channel released perhaps the greatest Youtube golf video of all time. The Bob Does Sports Youtube Channel consists of Bobby Fairways, Joey Coldcuts, Fat Perez, Binny “The Jet” and J-Bone documenting the adventures they have playing golf across the country. The loveable and relatable crew captured their most coveted guest yet: Lebron James. I am here to tell you why Lebron James joined Bob Does Sports and how BDS is playing its role in the Youtube golf movement.
The Beauty of BDS
The Bob Does Sports Youtube Channel has been around since around 2022, led by host Bobby Fairways; influencer and podcast host of the brilliantly dumb show. Over the years, the following he accumulated on instagram and from his podcast translated to Youtube. In 2022, the channel consisted of Bob and his best friend Joey Cold Cuts, playing golf matches in between working shifts at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Slowly the channel gathered a considerable following on Youtube. The channel began to take off after long haired accountant and scratch golfer “Fat Perez” joined the show. From there, the channel began to feature more and more celebrities, signing brand deals with Callaway, producing their own clothing brand and even hosting their own Youtube golf tournament; the Internet Invitational. Despite their fame, their channel has remained grounded and hilarious each and every episode. Bob Fairways and Joey Cold Cuts are known for their poor play on the golf course, but more importantly, for their witty personalities. Routinely, the iconic Fat Perez repeatedly delivers fairway finding drives, pin seeking irons and euro stepping putts. Additionally, the channel incorporates the use of Binny “The Jet” and J-Bone, (their producers) as recurring and hysterical characters. What makes BDS special is how they encapsulate making special memories while playing golf with your best friends. This formula attracted millions of viewers, and eventually,“King” James onto the show.

The Perfect Fourth
Despite his busy schedule, Lebron was happy to play nine holes with the BDS crew. At around the 8 minute mark of the episode, Lebron introduced himself to the BDS crew. This moment became very wholesome in the way Lebron knew all the camera crew members names and even asked Joey about his new born baby, Luca. Immediately, it became evident that Lebron was a fan of the channel himself, dropping references to each member of the BDS trio and easily sharing laughs on the tee box. The episode truly was about as good as the viewers could have hoped for, unless there was miraculously a Fat Perez hole in one. The King and the crew unsurprisingly had a substantial amount of dialogue on food. In the fairways, there were several jokes about BDS moments. On the greens, we were able to witness epic birdie putt celebrations. Additionally, Bob really put his interviewer skills to work with Lebron, diving into the French Toast vs Pancake Debate, the wisdom resulting from parenthood, how Lebron first got into Youtube golf, deep conversations about Lebron’s most difficult moments in his career and more. Best of all, the King and Bob acknowledged that they would play golf again in the near future.
Continuous Ascension of Youtube Golf
The incredible rise of Youtube golf did not happen overnight. Before Bob Does Sports, the first premier Youtube golf channels were Rick Shields and Good Good. The channels were the catalyst to an ever-growing fandom of Youtube golf, emergence of golf influencers and a love of a different side to golf. What made these channels so entertaining to watch was how relatable they were. The bad shots, narration from the “carts cams” and funny moments with friends made these channels so popular. Nowadays, seemingly everyone has their own golf channel. In an alternative way, the outbreak of near tour level golfers such as the Bryan Bros (Wesley and George Bryan) and Grant Horvat are starting their own Youtube channels. The addition of tour level Youtube golfers opened the gates to many new opportunities for Youtube golf. In August of 2024, the Creator Classic featured the most skilled Youtube golfers competing at TPC Sawgrass on the PGA tour network just before the Player’s championship. Additionally, last year’s thrilling Internet Invitational played on Tigers Wood’s Payne’s Valley Course at Big Cedar Lodge has received a collective 27 million views on Youtube. Lastly, in recent news, the Bryan Bros and Grant Horvat will be creating their own golf tour: You Golf Tour. The tour will consist of four mini-events, 16 golfers (including the creators themselves) and an esteemed $1m individual strokeplay championship at Wynn Resort, Las Vegas. Currently, it is an extremely exciting time to be a Youtube golf fan as the product will only continue to reach new heights.
