The Ghosts closed out the season strong on a 17-2 win over William Tennent and are looking to build off of that win in round 1. Abington enters this matchup at 13-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play, while Upper Merion touts a 15-3 overall record. The Ghosts are ranked 28th in class 3A, 54th in Pennsylvania, and 549th in the country. The winner of this matchup moves on to face 2 seed WC Henderson, a school that will be looking for revenge on Abington after their loss in the boys soccer championship. Ahead of this matchup, I spoke with Coach Meg MacClain.
Me: What needs to happen to win this game?
Coach Meg: The girls need to play for each other, work hard and show the grit they have in prior games will help them succeed. Having composition and making the smart move also contribute to being successful in tonight’s game.Â
Me: How exciting is a home playoff game’s energy?
Coach Meg: This is the 1st year in my 4yrs coaching at Abington that we are hosting the playoff game. I think having that home field energy and being able to have fans come support without the travel will bring some spark and excitement to the game.
This is a home game, so come out to support at Schwartzman Stadium if you can! Go Ghosts!
