We are Kent State
The Golden Flashes pulled off a huge series win against Tennessee over the weekend. Tennessee took the first game, but Kent State would take the second off the back of some sloppy defense from the Vols and great pitching from Kent State. What happened in the third game? Well, it wasn’t exactly close. 9-5 was the final,
Only SEC team to lose a series last weekend
Upset Tuesday
On Tuesday, we had a series of games so wild that ESPN acknowledged college baseball. Yes, that’s how crazy this was. #1 UCLA fell to San Diego State 4-3, with Aidan Russell being outstanding out of the bullpen with 5 strikeouts in 11 batters faced. #2 LSU was taken down by former March Madness Cinderella story McNeese 7-6, despite a 2 run first inning and a comeback attempt. #5 Georgia Tech was beaten by Georgia State 9-4 after the Panthers strong final 5 innings. #6 Arkansas was destroyed by Arkansas State 12-4, led by Ashton Quiller’s 4 RBI’s. Last but not least, #13 Oklahoma’s undefeated streak came to an end in a 15-3, 7 inning loss at the hands of Arizona State, primarily Landon Hairston and his 5 RBI’s. College baseball is crazy.
Queens does the impossible
0-17. That was the Royals record against P4 teams before Wednesday. Then they played South Carolina. Queens came out with a 9-8 victory against the Gamecocks, marking the first win against a power 4 team in program history. While this game is ultimately not important for the baseball landscape, it reveals something that anyone who’s been paying attention already knows. South Carolina is only relevant because of the SEC.
NC State beats Richmond 27-0
That’s about all I have to say.
Prediction updates
Golden Spikes: Roch Cholowsky or Justin Lebron
Cholowsky: Roch has been on fire for the last week. He’s batting .400 with a 1.163 OPS and 6 home runs through his 39 plate appearances.
Lebron: Justin is also off to a great start, with a .267 batting average, a 1.243 OPS, and 5 home runs through 42 plate appearances.
NPOTY: Cameron Flukey
Flukey is going to miss some time with an injury to his ribs. This prediction might be finished.
Underrated: Troy
The Trojans are sitting at .500, with a 4-4 record, but they picked up a big win against #8 Georgia on Wednesday, which is proof that their slow start will come to pass. This team has lots of potential, and that’ll reveal itself as the season rolls on.
Overrated: Georgia Tech
GT finally stumbled as mentioned earlier, but the Yellow Jackets are still off to a strong start. Not feeling too much better about this. I knew I should’ve gone with TCU.
National Champions: UCLA
Roch Cholowsky. Best player in college baseball, on the best team in college baseball. The Bruins demolished TCU in the first nationally televised series of the year so badly that TCU dropped 15 spots in the D1baseball rankings. They also have the two home run leaders in the previously mentioned Roch Cholowsky and 1st Baseman Will Gasperino. I already felt good, but now I’m feeling even better about this pick.
