Coming up very soon is Abington Senior High School Film Club’s very first Fall Film Festival. While it does slightly bleed into the holiday season, taking place on December 11th, the festival aims to embody autumn themes and invite participation from Abington student filmmakers.
Film Club is a relatively new club at Abington that seeks to galvanize a community based around the art of film and cinema. However, the Fall Film Fest marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club, as it is the first time the club has ventured into addressing actual filmmaking rather than analysis or viewing. It is altogether exciting to see where the club will go from here!
Film club invites filmmakers and cineastes to participate in their first-ever festival. This could be anyone’s chance or motivation to finally pick up the camera and find their cinematic voice through the medium of motion pictures. The deadline has been extended to Dec. 10th, giving anyone interested plenty of time to shoot their films and have them showcased in a few weeks.
What makes this festival engaging, however, are the guidelines. Films must be about 5 minutes long for anyone participating and must fall under an autumn/winter “vibe.” Submissions can be any genre, from horror to comedy to even action. As long as they capture the essence of the current season, they could be welcome additions to the festival’s catalogue. After all, Orson Welles famously said that “the enemy of art is the absence of limitations,” prompting us to be creative with the space we are given.
Whether or not you are an aspiring filmmaker, an avid lover of film (modern or classic), or just someone looking to have a good time (solo or with friends), consider Film Club’s film festival. Our festival will be after school on December 11th in the Black Box Theater. We would love to see you there in person, and maybe even on the big screen!
