Have you ever been to a Trader Joes, in search of a missing ingredient for a recipe or even a singular jug of milk, and you somehow left the store with three grocery bags packed to the brim? If so, you’re not alone. Trader Joe’s attracts an almost cult-like following of shoppers, and not without reason.
Unique Products
Trader Joe’s primarily uses its own private label brand for the majority of its products(around 80%), which gives customers the opportunity to discover unique, curated goods. Trader Joe’s novelty is one of its main allures, carrying products like “Everything But the Bagel” seasoning and “Thanksgiving Stuffing Seasoned Popcorn” that are the products of far-fetched imaginations.
Prices are Affordable
Trader Joe’s prices are over 20% cheaper than other grocery stores like Whole Foods and Stop & Shop for staple goods like eggs, canned goods, and even some specialty items. Through Trader Joe’s website, I found that the brand manages to keep prices lower by dealing directly with manufacturers and cutting out the middleman of brokers and distributors within the industry. The unique products and comparably cheaper prices are at the heart of this multi-billion-dollar company’s success.
Employee’s Positive Spirits
The employees’ positive demeanors are staples of the business, leading one to question: why are these employees so much friendlier than those of a Giant Store or an Aldi? Well, Trader Joe’s employees actually get a 20% discount on all items, health benefits, and $18.63 per hour on average; these benefits are, unsurprisingly, conducive to an extremely positive work environment. I can personally say I have never seen happier employees, let alone people, than those of a Trader Joe’s staff. I once got strawberries for free because an employee ringing me up thought the condensation on the lid looked like a smiley face.
Seasonal Goods
There is nothing that a fall girl loves more than a “Pumpkin Creamer” or “Butternut Squash Mac-and-Cheese”. With seasonal picks like these constantly rotating in and out of the shelves, customers are left coming back for more as the seasons weather.
Trader Joe’s takes grocery shopping, something that many deem a tedious chore, and turns it into an enjoyable and novel experience for the whole family. Even when my mom used to drag me along with her to go grocery shopping, I always preferred the vibrant and child-friendly environment curated in my local Trader Joe’s.
