Eric Dixon might have just played the game of his life. Going into halftime against Seton Hall, Villanova had found themselves in a difficult spot. They were down 12, Dixon had only 7 points, and the Seton Hall crowd in Newark was feeling good. Seton Hall jumped out to extend their lead to 16 with 18:13 left in the second half. After that, their offense went quiet. The Pirates were completely unable to stop Eric Dixon. He erupted for 25 points in the second half alone. To put into perspective, Seton Hall’s entire team scored 21 second half points.
Dixon finished the night with 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists. He was also +12 on the night and 4/8 from three. This is one of Dixon’s most impressive performances over his Villanova career. It drew resemblances to last season, including his 34 points and 10 rebounds against UNC and his clutch 32 points and 6 rebounds performance against Creighton which included a game winning three. Additionally, earlier this season he put up 38 points and 4 rebounds in his showing against #16 Maryland earlier this season. Dixon has averaged 23 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists per game and has a strong case to be player of the year. If Villanova wants to make a run in the Big East Tournament and make the March Madness tournament, they will need to have big time performances like these from Eric Dixon.
