Indiana proves their contendership
Curt Cignetti is the coach of the decade, and the decade isn’t even over yet. After losing to Ole Miss in the 2020 Outback Bowl, Indiana’s football program completely fell apart. And that’s “fell apart” by Indiana standards, so you know it’s terrible. After a 3-8 season, they replaced Tom Allen with JMU’s Curt Cignetti and haven’t looked back since. They hosted a playoff game in Cignetti’s first season, and are looking for more this year. The Hoosiers seem to be on the right track after this massive win vs a strong Oregon team, and QB Fernando Mendoza is becoming a Heisman favorite. They are perfectly set up for a juggernaut matchup in the Big 10 championship vs #1 Ohio State, which I can’t wait to watch.
What are the Texas Longhorns?
If I gave a “Most confusing team” award, it’d definitely go to Texas. I can not understand them. They were all but dead in the water after losing to a very weak Florida team. Then they come out and beat #6 Oklahoma? What?? Does this mean my National Championship pick is back on?
The Penn State Problem has been solved
James Franklin’s tenure at Penn State was very bittersweet. On one hand, he brought the program back from one of the biggest scandals in the history of college sports. He helped make the Nittany Lions a yearly contender and brought a Rose Bowl title to Happy Valley for the second time in school history. But on the other hand, you have his tradition of struggles vs quality opponents, which has cost Penn State many playoff appearances. You can’t help but think that they could’ve been more. Most of us thought they would hold on to Franklin and cut him loose at the end of the season, but when you lose to Northwestern, you lose the right to a merciful release.
It’s time to respect Pitt Football
They’re far from a juggernaut, but why has no one discussed the turnaround that they’ve pulled off after the disaster that was 2023 for the Panthers? Pitt has turned into an offensive machine, averaging 39.8 points per game this season through 6 games. Their defense isn’t good, but they’re halfway there! Unfortunately, any hopes of a playoff or ACC Championship appearance are immediately dashed when you look at their last three games. #13 Notre Dame, #14 Georgia Tech, #2 Miami. Well, at least there should be a bowl game to look forward to!
