Being a Christian in high school is not an easy experience. Frankly, being an “anything” in high school is not an easy experience. Nonetheless, we have to cope and stand up for our beliefs and convictions. It requires a great deal of strength and is never easy to do, especially alone. But hear the good news: Abington has a club for Christians seeking to find others carrying the same cross as them. FCA, or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is an inclusive, Christian organization aimed at bringing faith and athletics together. But it goes beyond that. You do NOT have to be an athlete in order to join! The principle is more about uniting your school life with your faith.
Why would I join FCA? Well, speaking from personal experience, FCA has been a cornerstone of my high school career up to this point. It has been a communal anchor in an otherwise confusing, chaotic, and overwhelming high school experience. FCA is a judgement free, teacher-managed club at Abington which could be a great way to meet others with the same conviction as you in your very own school.
Another thing to understand is that FCA is not limited to Christians or any type of Christian. It serves as a place for fellowship and harmony within the larger student body, and it is open to all denominations as well as non-Christians as well. So whether or not you consider yourself a believer, check out FCA. We have weekly, student-led meetings on Friday Learn 2s in Mr. Hall’s room, C-133. We hope to see you there!
