As a teenage girl during our time in history, it has become apparent to me that the United States’ political world has shifted drastically. The main difference I have noticed between the stories my parents told me and my time in history class is that the political parties and candidates’ morals have changed. During the 2024 election, a new republican movement emerged: Make America Great Again. MAGA and Trump’s destructive morals have made a huge impact on the political state of our country as well as dehumanizing people.
One thing that Trump and MAGA support is mass deportation. However, it is not the policy that dampens their morals and has Democrats on their toes. Barack Obama himself deported over 800,000 illegal immigrants a year during his time serving as president, and most democrats didn’t have a problem with this. This is because Trump and Obama went about the process in two drastically different ways. Obama deported immigrants who were committing illegal acts and were harming our citizens. People who came here without disturbance, had already settled down, and had families here were free to stay. However, Trump is doing the complete opposite. He is deporting every illegal immigrant no matter the circumstance. He calls these people “animals” and refers to them as less than him, which is simply not true. The White House even posted a deportation ASMR video, which seems to mock immigrants being chained by their hands and feet. Trump is deporting people who have been here all of their lives, who have families, and who have jobs here in the United States. Kids are even being separated from their families because Trump can’t stand the thought of someone different from him being in the U.S., and MAGA is standing behind him. Trump is even attempting to get rid of birthright citizenship to prevent anyone deemed as different from being a part of our country.
Trump lacks any care for our planet and only cares for the increase of money in his pockets. Both the MAGA group and Trump have made it clear where they stand on climate change and other issues involving the environment, with many of them claiming that climate change isn’t real. Trump has repeatedly said many times over the past decade that climate change is just a “money-making industry” and that “a lot of it is a hoax” even after he was given scientific facts backed by research. Trump has also dismissed the fact that sea levels have been rising faster than they ever have and says, “That is not our problem.”
Another cataclysmic act that Trump is for is drilling. Trump has repeatedly said, “We will drill, baby, drill,” while referring to drilling for additional oil for profit. The only thing that Trump wants out of oil drilling is more money that will benefit him and the millionaires and billionaires already. The continuation of this act will kill our environment. It will fasten the ice melting in the Arctic, leave millions of animals dead or out of homes, kill plants, and destroy the beauty of our environment.
Another policy that Trump and MAGA stand for is the banning of abortions for women.
Words and actions from MAGA and Trump have shown that an abortion ban isn’t about “saving” a child. It is about trying to control women and force more gender-specific roles. If it was about the child, then Trump and MAGA would be against owning guns or for stricter gun laws since gun violence is the leading cause of death for children. Trump also wouldn’t have cut funding for cancer research for children. As soon as the child is born, Trump and MAGA couldn’t care less about what happened to the child.
Trump and MAGA will be the ones to destroy this country. They do not care about other human beings unless they look and act like them. They do not care about women or their struggles. They do not care about our Earth, the place that is our home. Without the planet, there would be no us. This planet feeds us, houses us, clothes us, and gives us our way of living. We cannot live without this beautiful planet we call home, but it sure can live without us. So, we need to treat Earth better than Trump and MAGA preach. The people who came here illegally are just people; crossing the border without papers does not change this fact. Trump and MAGA need to remember that none of us would be here without immigrating, as we were not the first ones here. They also need to remember that forcing a mother to have a child that she does not want, cannot take care of, or will risk her life if she gives birth will not benefit the child or society at all. These morals and policies that Trump and MAGA stand for need to change for our country to become the country we all want it to be.
