In recent years, Artificial Intelligence has expanded to public use and public data. Some find hope in this, while others believe it kills human productivity and is unsafe. In a positive aspect, it can be used to further industry, and find better solutions to problems without human error. However, it can be used to breach data security and take away job opportunities. To summarize, there are both pros and cons associated with AI.
Pros:
Innovative Creativity
The introduction of Generative AI serves as a great source of human inspiration. For instance, the AI can generate creative ideas and photos of certain themes or ideals. In the future, this type of AI could be used to layout visual business plans, new models of technology, and architecture. This allows for there to always be a source of inspiration for people, and is able to generate these ideas within seconds of a command.Â
Information Retrieval
One of the many things that AI has over human power is the ability to quickly retrieve information. Anything from certain fun facts to very specific information, the AI can retrieve within seconds, and translate it to something simple to explain. This type of intelligence can help aid professionals in always staying up to date with new information. An example of this is Apple Intelligence, which uses Chat GPT to retrieve information, or uses the internet to short answer. While these answers are not always reliable nor accurate, if there is a deadline or a rush to get an answer, AI can retrieve quick, useful information to the prompt.Â
Adaptive analytics learningÂ
Due to AI’s constant adaptive technology, it can analyze user’s behavior and preferences in order to draw conclusions from them. For advertising, this is used to find the preference of a customer, in order to tailor advertisements to them that best fits their needs. This is also used in education, in Duolingo, when the course of the language objectives change, depending on how the user responds to certain comprehension questions. Even in new Iphones, Siri is now used to learn the slang or lingo of the user, and determine the preferences of the user. All of these features are part of AI’s innate ability to always be better than how it was, and improve because of the adaptive learning of analytics.Â
Cons:Â
Absence of Independent ThinkingÂ
Due to AI’s open pit of information, many people, especially younger people, rely strictly on AI to tell them the answer. Certain assignments like homework or essays, AI is purely used as the only thing fueling the assignment. When this happens, people are not able to think critically or respond to prompts based on their own knowledge, rather they rely on the AI to tell them the quick, easy answer. This might not seem like a bad problem, since AI will always be around. However, this creates a populace that is dumb. Nobody is able to think for themselves, constantly relying on AI for anything critical. In this case scenario, the end result will be AI conquering everything evidently, because people cannot think for themselves.Â
No Such Thing as Privacy
With AI being integrated on everything, from phones, watches, computers, apps, and home assistants, there really is no privacy. AI is constantly collecting information from you whether you like it or not, and there is not much the average person can do now. Home assistants like the Amazon Alexa or Apple Homepod are always recording your voice for analytics. Even on your phone, Google or Apple Intelligence is being used to record everything that is being put into your phone, and even your voice. Even third-party Apps that use AI like Snapchat and Chat-gpt are using your information. Therefore, people do not feel safe in AI being a useful tool, because it does not allow you to have any privacy.Â
Job Displacement
Any person that is in a job which uses quick thinking and cognitive tasks in order to complete their work should be scared of AI taking their job. Jobs that can be easily automated such as cashiers, repetitive tasks, and administrative tasks all have the risk of being taken over by AI. The ramifications of AI taking over jobs is much more grave than many would think it would. This means that easier jobs that have repetitive tasks or movement will not have as many opportunities for the working class, and it will cause an even larger gap between the rich and the poor. Due to less job opportunities, the poor will get poorer, and the rich will find more ways to make money, leading to their being no working class.Â
Conclusion:
Artificial Intelligence has proven itself to be a large part of our future. There are certain actions you can take to keep you and others safe in digital literacy. However, there are numerous pros and cons to this new technology, and certain features are up for debate in the upcoming years. Â
