The 2024 ASHS Cross Country season has been largely successful, their winning record only emphasized by the severe shortage of interested runners. With just 20 official members, the Abington Cross Country team found themselves often outnumbered by the various teams they faced throughout the season. However, what they lack in numbers they make up for in determination and hard work. The team holds practice every weekday after school from 3 to 5, where they train to improve their time and technique. Most members make an effort to go on long runs over the weekends, to continue improving and keep their edge. One of these mentioned runners is Chase O’Brien, Co-captain of the team and the fastest member. Chase truly embodies the spirit of diligence and ambition, attempting to run every chance he gets; whether it’s after school, on weekends, or even during breaks like summer. At the William Tennent Invitational, Chase achieved an important PR for his season, recording a 17:07 5k. The Abington Cross Country team now looks forward to Leagues, where they expect to try their hardest and place highly. Chase hopes to then qualify for Districts, with the goal of going sub 17:00 before the season ends. While the season is coming to a close, the runners will be able to look back on the memorable moments of their season, and with a proper farewell to their seniors, they can look forward to the new ones they will make next season.Â
