The events for the Spring 2025 RTW season of the fashion calendar have quickly flooded the media in the past week. Honestly, it’s been fascinating, and nothing that anybody could have predicted from the many talented Creative Directors of the fashion industry. Many familiar designers— from Versace to Dior, have shown spectacular collections, flaunting their meticulous craftsmanship, hard work, creativity, and vivid visions. I have taken the time to go through many of the shows from this ready-to-wear season, and after seeing the coverage of the shows, a few specific collections have stuck out to me.
- Schiaparelli
Heavily centered around corsetry, something Schiaparelli has always been very good with, in this collection— the way they toyed with the concept made it unique. I enjoyed how the corsets were turned into different articles of clothing, like jackets, tank tops, and collared shirts. I thought the execution of the pieces from this collection was innovative, and also screaming quiet luxury. Although the color palette was mostly white and neutral colors, the collection wasn’t boring or basic. They took basic articles of clothing and elevated them to another level.
- Balmain
Balmain’s recent collection was well done. In general, Olivier Rousteing is an expert in his craft. His collections are always well thought out. For their S/S 2025 collection specifically, I liked how he played around with facial features and illusions. In the opening look of the collection, there was a face and hand embroidered and printed onto the outfit, giving the illusion of the model being held by an oversized hand. Additionally, the tailoring of the jackets and Blazers in this collection made the models’ shoulders appear higher than they were. I also thought that the use of beading and glitter was done well, and didn’t make the pieces look tacky. Everything about this collection was tasteful and innovative.
- Diesel
This next one might be a little biased, considering I am a Diesel consumer myself, but I really enjoyed the show. I’ve noticed that most of Diesel’s shows always have a unique feature that stands out. For example, in their Fall 2024 show, the see-through acidic wash was a prominent and consistent part of the collection, which added to the cohesiveness of it all. In the recent collection, the models wore blue, yellow, red, and black contacts. The collection also featured distressed, ripped, and shredded denim as well as colorful prints coming later into the show. Overall, some of my favorite things about this show was the specific and purposeful placement of the elements of each look, as well as the use of denim as it is one of Diesel’s house codes, while still being able to incorporate other fabrics.
