Due to vicious rumors stemming from the album, Sour by Olivia Rodrigo, about a breakup that involved Carpenter, the entire Internet turned on her, labeling her as a “home-wrecker.” Loads of hate and negativity were sent toward her, tainting her reputation. This made her aspirations for a successful career in the music industry extremely difficult to achieve. However, somehow, she rebuilt and reclaimed her reputation, her name, and her career all with one incredible album: emails i can’t send. Released on July 15, 2022, this album exhibits unbothered attitudes as well as extreme vulnerability, surprising many fans, as it goes into detail about her inner thoughts and her perspective on the past drama that riveted the media.

 The song specifically, “because i liked a boy,” goes into Carpenter’s inner thoughts during the drama that took place, talking about how the entire Internet turned against her, sending massive amounts of hate, just because she liked a boy. Something as innocent as dating cost her so much, giving her no choice on who she was to the world. I feel the lyrics “I’m a homewrecker, I’m a s**t/ I got death threats filling up semi-trucks/ Tell me who I am, guess I don’t have a choice/ All because I liked a boy” completely captures the essence and points of the song as well as the album. 

Carpenter has already grown even more successful than before with her emails i can’t send tour, and her appearances at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Sabrina Carpenter’s current most popular songs are “Nonsense” and “Feather.” Both of which show the liveliness and playfulness in her lyrics that many fans adore. Some of my personal favorites from emails i can’t send are “Tornado Warnings,” “Read Your Mind,” and “Bad for Business.” Carpenter’s variety of songs, ranging from intimate and vulnerable to upbeat and unbothered, continue to build her reputation as a pop princess.
