Need a new artist to listen to? Consider giving Gracie Abrams a listen, a phenomenal singer-songwriter beginning her rise to fame. Despite starting her career so recently, with only two EPs, Minor and This Is What It Feels Like, and her debut album, Good Riddance, she has already been featured as an opening act in both Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour Tour and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. In addition, she has recently been nominated for Best New Artist for the 2024 Grammys. These achievements are well-deserved, however, because of the artistry of her songs.
Abrams’ songs are touching and heartbreaking, each one filled with such emotion and sincere vulnerability. Her ability to be so specific in her songs yet so relatable caught many fans’ hearts, giving them the knowledge that they’re not alone in their feelings. Abrams’ songs have heartbreaking and touching lyrics that evoke nostalgia and sorrow. Every lyric has such depth and meaning behind it, giving many fans the entertaining job of analyzing every single one. Every individual song carries endless emotion and an admirable amount of transparency, something that is very difficult to accomplish with such a large audience. Being able to express such vulnerability with that large of a fanbase is a skill many struggle to attain, yet one Abrams never fails to achieve. Her unique, soft voice won many fans’ attention with her quiet sadness and whispers holding as much emotion as if she were screaming it. From my experience of seeing her live at the Eras Tour, her powerful voice reverberates throughout any venue, her melodious voice moving through the stadium and into people’s hearts.
A good place to start if you’re willing to start listening to Gracie Abrams is “21,” “I miss you, I’m sorry,” or “Feels Like.” These songs give you an idea of Abrams’ style, yet are upbeat with incredible lyrics that can touch your heart. However, my personal favorites, which change every week, are currently “Full machine,” “Best,” “Camden,” “Older,” and “Two people.” Every song of hers has a special meaning behind it, giving many fans the gift of feeling seen and accepted.
