As the tickets for Abington Senior High’s 2024 play will be on sale soon, there will also be sign ups to audition for the Spring School Musical. But are students really excited for the show?
It was announced that the Abington Senior High School’s 2024 musical is “Fiddler on the Roof,” directed by Mrs. Wolf and Mr. Myers. The show goes back to the date of 1964 when it had its grand debut on Broadway. Many theater fans are already thinking about trying out for the Musical. It will also be the last musical for the seniors. The show is known for its sense of romance and meaning of tradition.
If you don’t know what “Fiddler on the Roof” is, the theme of it is tradition. It is about a Jewish family in a time where the Jews were treated unfairly by the Russians. A Jewish father and main character, Tevye, wants his daughters to get married, but his daughters start to question this tradition. With its heartwarming tale, it is a musical that all would enjoy. Many students can’t wait to audition for this heartfelt performance. But the truth is that some wish it was something else.
Fiddler is a good show but some kids find it to be more boring. The setting takes place in a time of discrimination to Jews. There is the whole lesson about tradition but these traditions are not always the best. The costumes and scenery are more simple and dull. And the ending is quite sad.
Some students really wanted to have the school musical be “Dreamworks Shrek: The Musical.” It is a colorful musical-comedy about a grumpy Ogre who goes on a quest to get back his land from a mean lord. It consists of many unique fairy tale characters and hilarious songs. Plus, many people love to watch it because it makes them laugh with its jokes and characters with comedic timing. The students want to be part of this hilarious comedy and seniors thought it would be a good way to end their last year of school.
Unfortunately, there are some issues about it that would be difficult. First, it would be an expensive show due to costumes, sets, and props. Also, some might prefer a more grown up show more than a show for kids. Plus, the show might be quite challenging for the pit crew.
Here is a list of shows that students might want to perform in the future:
- Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
- Beetlejuice
- Freaky Friday
- Legally Blonde
- Disney and Carmeron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins
- Mean Girls
- The Little Mermaid
- Shrek: The Musical
- The Spongebob Musical
Until then, let’s enjoy the magic of “Fiddler on the Roof,” coming next Spring!
