Artist Review: Carrie Underwood

Kira DeCristofaro, Writer

Many people have heard the name Carrie Underwood and think of her American Idol win or how she is the face of Sunday Night Football. She is a very successful country artist and one of my favorites of all time. I know every single one of her songs by heart. She is a very nostalgic artist for me because I grew up listening to her music and still continue to listen to her today. She released her most recent album Denim & Rhinestones in June 2022, and her most popular song from the album was Ghost Story. This was an interesting and unique album for her because she took new approaches to her songs that were different from any of the music that she had released before.

Underwood has gotten into the art of performing throughout these past few years, performing in casinos and going on tour this year. I have gotten the chance to go on two of her tours, one in 2019 and one in 2023. I loved both, but I have seen so much progression in her stage presence when I think back on both of the performances. She is so talented and an understanding person. At her concert this year in February, she moved around to make sure all her fans could see her no matter where they were sitting. She was on a floating chair during her performance of Ghost Story and was doing some stunts similar to P!NK. It was a very cool experience, and I was grateful to be able to see her so up close. This tour was my favorite; my family and I went to sit in our seats and not even 5 minutes after sitting down, we were approached by a security guard who gave us all floor seats to her show. That was one of the best moments ever for me. She also performed so many of her old songs as well, which I loved since it was interesting to hear her sing them now compared to just how they sounded recorded 10-15 years ago.

Everyone has heard of her classics like Before He Cheats and Jesus Take the Wheel. I have to say that Before He Cheats is not one of my favorites because it doesn’t show the extent of her talent as an artist. Don’t get me wrong, though, it is a good song. I’d recommend you to listen to Last Name if you like Before He Cheats. Some of my favorites are Wasted, Little Toy Guns, So Small, and Relapse. I have a new favorite every week, and that currently is Little Toy Guns. If I had to recommend just one album, I would say my favorite album of hers is either Some Hearts or Carnival Ride. I hope after reading this you would want to listen to some of her music yourself! Here are some of the pictures that I took at the concert as well:
