Cinema Class Review

Kira DeCristofaro, Writer

When I was choosing electives this year, I was very excited about my cinema class. It did not disappoint! I am currently in Mr. Rendine’s cinema class for the second semester and I am loving it so far! I wanted to write a review for the class to help others understand what the class is like from a student’s perspective.

The basis of the class is watching movies of course, but they are movies that are based in the cinematography realm of film rather than what a modern-day movie is to be considered. I thought it was very interesting to learn the difference between a modern-day movie and a classic cinema film because I didn’t notice how much we truly have evolved in the world of technology when it comes to film. In the class, you learn and study film concepts as well as analyze them as well when you are watching. It is a new and fun way for me to watch movies and films since I am always trying to put together the little details and piece hidden meanings together.

Some films I have watched so far that have been my favorites are Casablanca (1942) and Singin’ in the Rain (1952). We started the class as far back in time as the 1920s with Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times (1936). We watch a wide variety of films such as silent films, black and white films, and talking films. If you are a movie lover or want to learn more about cinematography, this class is for you!
