Five Predictions for the 2023 Philadelphia Phillies Season
February 15, 2023
The 2023 season looks very promising for the Philadelphia Phillies and there are some key predictions that are being made for this upcoming season. Here are five of the most interesting ones.
1. The Phillies will have the best starting pitching in the NL East
The Phillies have retooled their pitching staff this off-season, acquiring a number of pitchers. These acquisitions, combined with the young arms already on the roster, make the Phillies look like one of the best starting pitching staffs in the NL East. With the addition of Taijuan Walker on top of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez the Phillies should have no problems getting through their rotation. Additionally, the Phillies have the best right-handed pitching prospect in the MLB, Andrew Painter. It is likely that he could make the opening-day roster and have a great rookie season himself.
2. JT Realmuto will be in the National League MVP conversation
JT Realmuto had a great season in 2022, hitting .276 with 22 home runs and 84 RBIs. He also won the Gold Glove award for his work behind the plate. With the Phillies’ improved pitching staff, Realmuto is in a great position to put up even better numbers in 2023 and will be a strong contender for the National League MVP.
3. The Phillies will win the NL East
The Phillies have a deep and talented roster, starting rotation, and bullpen that should be able to compete with any team in the NL East. Additions like shortstop Trea Turner and closer Greg Soto have filled the most glaring needs for the team. Now that the Phillies have playoff experience, look for them to be back in a big way.
4. Bryce Harper will hit 30+ home runs
Due to injuries, Bryce Harper had a down year in 2022, hitting just 18 home runs. But with the improvements the Phillies have made to the roster, Harper should be in a better position to have a bounce-back season in 2023. Look for him to hit at least 30 home runs this season.
5. The Phillies will win the World Series
The Phillies finally broke their playoff drought in 2022. After a heartbreaking loss to the baseball juggernaut that is the Astros, this could finally be the year they break through. With a talented roster and improved pitching staff, the Phillies are in the best position to win the World Series in 2023 since their last championship in 2008.
