If you’ve watched Fox News or even The Bing, you might be wondering what was going on last Friday. Well, here is your inside look on Abington’s appearance on the news. 

As a member of the marching band, I was required to be at what felt like a mock pep rally on October 15. All fall sports were required to attend and some even had to show up in uniform. (Shout out to the cheerleaders for being in full hair and makeup!) The energy in the room was pretty high for it being 9:00 AM. Hank Flynn and Marcus Espinoza from Fox News showed up about 10 minutes after everyone had filed into the auditorium and the filming began. 

The broadcast featured live footage of the marching band playing Abington’s fight song while the crowd in the gym cheered wildly. It then cut to the Central Bucks East football team, the school our football team was playing that night. The captains of the team did a little interview while the players ran drills in the background. Abington’s part of the clips showed more or less the same thing only in the main gym and with our team being interviewed. Captain Jamie Rivera gave some inspiring words saying, “The record doesn’t define us as a team, we go out and practice every day hard, five days a week, then we go out every Friday and put our lives on the line.” Ironically, we did lose that night, but the game was a good one. The few minutes that made it on film, however, did not show the almost hour-long fun that occurred in the gym.

The band played stand tunes to fill the silence and some members of the crowd even began dancing with the Colorguard and cheerleaders in the stands. People started doing whatever they could to entertain everyone, including cheerleaders tumbling across the gym. Two people even got up and tried to see who had the best dance moves. Eventually, things had to come to an end and we all had to leave the gym, but that didn’t stop the marching band from playing the victory song all down the hallways.
