Midnights Album Review
October 27, 2022
On October 21st, 2022, at midnight sharp, Taylor Swift released her new album Midnights, an album full of songs she has written in the middle of the night after meaningful experiences. This album had a lot of mixed reviews since the last two albums she released were indie-pop, full of heart-wrenching lyrics (Folklore and Evermore) and the new album is more pop. There are 13 songs on this album, and 7 bonus songs on Midnights (3 am Edition). The song “Anti-Hero” also has a music video. This song is one of the leading songs, where she sings about fighting her insecurities, such as an eating disorder. This song was a major hit for Swift. The song “Vigilante S**t” is the song with the most mixed reviews as people either love it or hate it; there’s no in-between. However, personally, I love it. Some people might call it corny, but it is a song about revenge towards someone who did her wrong in the past. She also wrote a song on that album called “Karma” that goes along well with “Vigilante S**t”. These songs resonate with the time period when her master rights were sold to Scooter Braun, which led to her not being able to own her old music and her disputes with Kanye West. There are a few amazing love songs such as “Lavender Haze.” This song was a big hit and Swift explained that she was inspired by the all-encompassing love glow. Another song that was a major hit and broke a record was the song “Snow on the Beach” (featuring Lana Del Ray). This was a hit because Swift and Lana are two big artists which fans love. Other fan favorites would be “Maroon”, “Labyrinth”, “Would’ve Could’ve, Should’ve”, and “Midnight Rain”. This album broke multiple records such as the largest sales week, the top-selling album of 2022, the most streamed album in a day on Spotify, and the most streamed artist in a single day on Spotify. Overall this album was successful and the fans did truly love it.
