Abington Chorale Coffeehouse

Tonight was the Abington Senior High Chorale’s 2022 Coffeehouse event — and the first one I’ve ever attended! Earlier this week, when I was asking around, trying to find out who was going to the event, I was shocked that most of my friends didn’t even know what the Coffeehouse was. If you don’t already know, Coffeehouse is a night where many ASHS Choir students sing one song in front of viewers who pay just $5 to attend. The song can be any genre, and students can sing solos, duets, or even trios! The event also has snacks for sale, with most of the food/drink items being only $1.

As a first-time attendee, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Would it be a super bustling, energetic environment or something similar to the vibe of a poetry reading at a coffee shop? I found the vibe to be incredibly peaceful and mellow, but not boring. The colored lights and dimness of Cafe C added to the calming ambiance. Because I knew and liked most of the songs, I was able to internally jam out to the performances. I never found myself bored with the shows but just saw it as a place to sit, listen, and maybe contemplate my life a little bit.

Overall, I had a great, relaxed time at the Coffeehouse and would recommend coming to the one next year to anyone who loves to hear live performances or is just looking for a peaceful night!
