Upcoming Artist: Lizzy McAlpine

Kira DeCristofaro, Writer

Lizzy McAlpine is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter who has recently been trending on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram ever since the release of her album, Five Seconds Flat, back in April of 2022. The album is just starting to get some recognition in these recent weeks from the trending song “doomsday” with famous lines you have probably heard: “and the funny thing is I would have married you if you’d had stuck around.”

She is a brilliant lyricist who studied at the Berkeley College of Music and went to high school not too far from here in Lower Merion. She was also born in Philadelphia. McAlpine truly started from the bottom and has been releasing music for a few years now, but her song “doomsday” is starting to give her the recognition she deserves. She has almost 4 million monthly listeners now on Spotify with “doomsday” having almost 10 million streams and another popular song, “ceilings,” reaching 11 million streams.

Her first album Give me a Minute, which was released in 2020, is another amazing work of original songs from her with her song “Pancakes for Dinner” being her most streamed song on Spotify at 34 million streams. Her music is more of the folk-pop genre with a softer vibe, but it fits with the colder, autumn weather from the changing seasons. If this is your first time hearing about her music, her voice is gorgeous and this is the link to her Spotify to give “doomsday” a listen if you have not already, and to listen to some of her other popular songs: Spotify: Lizzie McAlpine.
