Why Pitbull Stereotypes are Wrong

Ashleigh Lauer, Writer

From an early age, we are taught in school that we should not judge a book by its cover and look at people for who they are on the inside. Why should that change for animals? For many years, pitbulls have been stereotyped as mean and aggressive dogs. Their bulky faces and muscular body leads people to drastic and unworldly conclusions that pitbulls are terrible dogs to have. Owning a pitbull myself, I can say that the pitbull label could not be more false. Pitbulls are chosen by dog lovers because of their loyalty and commitment to protecting their owners. This breed is great around children because they are very affectionate around people they trust. Additionally, they make owners love the outdoors because of their need for exercise. Finally, these dogs love to cuddle and can brighten any day. Don’t let the scrunchy, narrow eye faces of a pitbull fool you; they are total sweethearts.Â
