Abington Ice Hockey Interview

Ava Maxwell, Sports Editor

Abington’s varsity ice hockey team starts their 2021-2022 season against Pennridge on Friday, November 5th. The game starts at 7:50 pm at Revolution Ice Gardens. With the team’s season beginning soon, I interviewed the team’s assistant captain: 11th-grader Ian Heydt.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most this season?

A: “I’m looking forward to making it to the playoffs, and hopefully into the championships with my team. I also look forward to having a good time with my friends and teammates.”

Q: Who’s the team’s biggest rival? How do you think you will perform against them this season?

A: “I think our biggest rival is Plymouth Whitemarsh because we have been undefeated against them during the time I have been on the team. I know a lot of people on Plymouth Whitemarsh’s team who really want to beat Abington. I think we’ll be able to hold our winning streak against them though.”

Q: Do you have any personal goals for this season?

A: “My personal goal for this season is to work hard and help my team as assistant captain. I also would like to try to double my points scored from last season.”

Q: How do you and the team typically celebrate a win?

A: “To celebrate wins, the team normally goes to the locker room and blasts music. We then talk about the highlights of the game, and what we could possibly improve on in the future.”

Q: How do you think the team will perform on Friday for the season opener?

A: “On Friday, I think our team can compete very well even though we are playing a Double-A team. If we work as hard as we do during practice, and as well as we did last year, I think we can beat Pennridge.”
