10 More Small Businesses to Support

Ava Maxwell, Writer

It’s been almost one year since the entire world shut down. Though many businesses have begun operating at a normal rate since then, small businesses are still struggling to get back on their feet. Back in September, I put together a list of 10 small businesses that you can support around the Montgomery and Bucks County area. Today, I’ll be adding to that list with 10 more small businesses around Abington!

Abington Pharmacy – If you ever need a last-minute card or gift, don’t go to chain stores like Rite Aid and CVS! Instead, head across the street from the Target on Old York Road and stop in the Abington Pharmacy. Not only do they have a great selection of cards and gifts but like any other pharmacy, they also fill prescriptions and sell a variety of over-the-counter medications.

Bullseye Burger House – Though in the name, burgers aren’t the only thing this place serves. From tacos to hot dogs to salads, you’re guaranteed to find something you will enjoy at Bullseye Burger House! Located in Keswick Village, Bullseye Burger House currently offers takeout or delivery within a 3-mile radius.

Danish Bakery – If you live in the Rockledge area or you’re a huge fan of butter cake, then you have most likely heard of this little bakery. The Danish Bakery is a family-owned bakery that has been in business for over 60 years. If you want to purchase their award-winning butter cake or their well-known pretzels, then you better get to the bakery early on the weekends before they sell out!

Humpty’s Dumplings – Awarded “Best Dumplings to Go” by Philadelphia Magazine in 2016, Humpty’s Dumplings has fulfilled many people’s need for a quick bite to eat. Humpty’s Dumplings sells all different types of dumplings to the Keswick area and often has special fillings that are changed either monthly or seasonally. Aside from their mix and match dumplings, they also sell noodle bowls and salads, all at inexpensive prices.

Sprinkles Ice Cream Shop – Located on the border of Abington and Cheltenham, Sprinkles Ice Cream Shop is open year-round. This small ice cream shop has over 40 ice cream flavors, and often has live music at least once a week in the summertime! Don’t hesitate to stop by if you’re vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free either because this shop has ice cream that will fit all of your special needs!

The Run Around – The Run Around is a small, family-owned sportswear store in the Roslyn area. If you ever need help while shopping, their customer service is very helpful with finding what you need in their large selection of athletic gear. Though they are a small business, The Run Around carries both large and small brands such as Mizuno, Nike, and Under Armour.

Vincent’s Pizza – Vincent’s Pizza, located in Rockledge Plaza, has a large menu ranging from pizzas to quesadillas. They also offer catering for events but due to COVID-19, they are only open for takeout. Nonetheless, Vincent’s is a great place to get dinner with the family, and I can assure you that it is worth the trip!

West Avenue Grille – Over in Jenkintown sits the award-winning restaurant West Avenue Grille. They have been in business for 20 years, and they have delicious, affordable meals for all three courses of the day! Whether you go by yourself or with a friend, you’re definitely going to want to pull out your phone and take a picture of your meal before you dig in.

White Horse Coffee and Creamery – Did you know that at White Horse Coffee and Creamery, all of their signatures are named after famous white horses? Instead of going to Starbucks for an iced coffee or tea, head over to Jenkintown and visit this little coffee shop! An added bonus to White Horse is that they sell fresh pastries, ice cream, and other handcrafted beverages!

Yummi Yummi Chinese Restaurant – If you’re looking for a place to order Chinese food and you’re a resident in the Glenside area, then I recommend Yummi Yummi. Even if you don’t live nearby, they offer takeout! Yummi Yummi may look small on the inside, but their building size does not interfere with the taste of their delicious General Tso’s chicken and other menu items.
