Reviewing Fashion Trends Going Into 2021

Sophie Taylor, Writer

As we begin the new year, fashion continues to be a huge part of society as some of the more popular clothing trends follow us into 2021. During quarantine, everyone had the chance to explore who they were with a ton of time to self-reflect. While I did do some deeper thinking of my own, another huge change I made for myself was my style. To be completely honest, online shopping was a big way of coping for me during tough times. Retail therapy is a real thing! My room was filled with piles upon piles of clothes and with all this time in my house alone, I was able to find my style by spending hours researching and trying on outfits. I have dug deeper into the world of fashion and formulated my own opinions about certain trends carrying into 2021. Now in no way am I any type of fashion expert, these are just my personal opinions. All in all, I believe that if you are confident in your clothes, don’t listen to others’ critics because if you own your outfit, the trend will look so good on you no matter what anyone says. So, with all that being said, today I will be discussing 3 different fashion trends going into 2021 that I hold opinions on. Let’s get into it!

The first trend I will be talking about is patterned pants. I know you’re thinking, “this topic is very vague,”  but that is the exact reason why I love patterned pants so much. You could slap any design on a pair of pants and make them look so sick. I think patterned pants are the best option for someone who is looking for a statement piece because there is so much to do with them. There are so many selections of patterned pants which is great since it’s not like there is only one style of pants that everyone goes for. Sure, there are more popular designs than others but overall, there are so many patterns to choose from that you can still feel unique. I am excited to see what new patterned pants come out in 2021 because I don’t think they will go out of style any time soon.

The next fashion trend I am going to discuss is the sneaker brand, Converse. In quarantine, Converse took over everybody’s shoe collection. I see the appeal of Converse: they are very simple and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I have the standard all-black and all-white high-top Converse back from my competition dance days, but I never wore them anywhere else besides the dance floor because I didn’t think they were very fashionable. However, now I am seeing how people make these sneakers look so cool all over the internet which inspired me to style my own Converses. I really like the specific style of these shoes and I always know a good pair when I see them. I do have one critique though for the high tops (which are the most popular shoe of the brand): I do not find myself being able to walk for lengthy periods of time in them. Being a sneaker, I feel like converse should be a little more flexible and easier to wear but with beauty comes pain I guess. I see these sneakers carrying on into 2021 until another shoe becomes more popular, but I do love the simplicity and can’t wait to see how people wear them next.

The final fashion trend I will be reviewing is actually the color brown. If you had told anyone 10, 5, or even 1 year ago that brown would be the most popular color to wear today, they likely would have most likely laughed in your face. We all know what we think of when we hear that color, and thinking of people wearing it fashionably is astonishing, yet early on this school year, brown took over the fashion industry very quickly, with brands making every piece of clothing possible. Here is my take on the color: I don’t love or hate it. Being the teenager I am, I obviously had to buy brown clothing to hop on the bandwagon. I must say, I didn’t love the color on me. Having brown hair wearing a brown top looks a bit strange, at least on me. I have seen so many brunettes look stunning in brown, but I think it just isn’t my color. I definitely would prefer brown pants over brown tops. If styled correctly, brown can look super elegant and beautiful. However, I don’t think this trend is going to last for much longer despite making its way into 2021.
