Nobody is Listening – Album Review
January 24, 2021
On January 15, former One Direction member, Zayn Malik, released his third solo album titled Nobody is Listening. Prior to the release of the album, Zayn dropped two singles titled “Better” and “Vibez,” both of which would later appear on his recent album. Nobody is Listening contains 11 songs such as “Calamity,” “Outside,” and “Connexion,” and includes two collaborations with the artists Syd and Devlin. Unlike Mind of Mine and Icarus Falls, Zayn’s first two solo albums, the tracklist for Nobody is Listening mainly consists of a slower tempo, with the exclusion of one or two songs.
Personally, my top three songs from this album are “Outside,” “Vibez,” and “Unf**kwitable.” I think “Outside” is a really good song for Zayn’s voice range because he is able to use his high notes in different parts of the song. “Vibez” is also a great song to actually vibe to, and I like it because its beat is different from the rest of the album. “Unf**kwitable” is probably my favorite song from the album because Zayn is saying that no one can control him, and he doesn’t care too much about giving people a cold shoulder. Not only that, but similar to “Vibez,” “Unf**kwitable” is a song that people can easily vibe or relate to.
Like most albums, however, there’s always a song or two that you don’t like right away, or seem like they don’t fit. For me, that song is “Tightrope” because it sounds like a country-pop song, but I don’t find the song so bad to the point where I skip it every time it comes on. I think “Tightrope” is a decent song, but the instrumentals don’t really fit in with the rest of Nobody is Listening.
Overall, I think Zayn’s new album Nobody is Listening is even better than I expected, and rating out of 10, I would give it a 9. Compared to Zayn’s past albums, Nobody is Listening has a different feeling to it that I think is very fitting for his vocal talent. In my opinion, there weren’t really any flops in this album, and I’m glad that each song has its own type of vibe rather than the whole album sounding the same. With all of the former members of One Direction releasing their own singles and albums in the past year, along with the release of Nobody is Listening, I’m excited to see what else they all have in store for the future.
