Chaos Erupts in Washington D.C.
January 12, 2021
Chaos erupted in Washington over ongoing election disputes. The day was intended to show support for President Trump and he encouraged his supporters to come to Washington D.C. to advocate for him. President Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and Donald Trump Jr. took the stage falsely claiming that President Trump won the election. There was a large group that was able to breach the Capitol while lawmakers were securing President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory. One woman was shot and later died. District of Columbia mayor, Muriel Bowser called in the National Guard to protect the building and remove the protesters. President Donald Trump and President-Elect Joe Biden encouraged the rioters to stop and go home.Â
Every American has the right to convey their beliefs and peacefully demonstrate. However, there must be respect for the law. Unfortunately, I believe that many previous events have contributed to what occurred today. The pandemic has taken a toll on many Americans, and many of their struggles were brought to the surface today. I feel that we are moving in a negative direction. I hope that we can mend the Capitol and mend the country. The election will not be reversed by scaling the walls of the United States Capitol. No issue will be resolved with violence. This is a desecration of our country. America should not lose faith because we will overcome these obstacles as a nation. January 6, 2021, was a total breakdown of our nation and the electoral process. It is a shame that President Trump was forced to end his term on this note, especially considering that there is now tension between President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. On the other hand, I hope President-Elect Joe Biden can mend our divided nation. The United States is a beacon of freedom and hope for many countries, and many individuals have gone to war to protect this status. It has been a very difficult year for all Americans, especially law enforcement and politicians. This was a gut-wrenching day for Americans. Many Americans’ livelihoods were taken away due to the pandemic and that frustration came to light today. I am horrified by this chaos and I hope any individual that vandalized the Capitol will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I hope Americans will reunite and overcome our differences. For this goal to be achieved, Americans from both sides of the aisle must reach across and overcome their differences.
