Shows & Movies to Watch Before They’re Taken off Netflix

Despite the adverse reactions from many Netflix users, Netflix is still losing some of the beloved TV shows and movies that fans adore. Since the company does not own all of its streaming content, these films and shows must leave eventually. All of the favorites on this list except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (which will be gone on December 25th) will leave Netflix on December 31st.
The Office
The Office is a mockumentary that revolves around the daily lives of people who work in a mid-size paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Dunder-Mifflin’s regional manager of Scranton, Michael Scott, amuses his colleagues with his chaotic sense of humor and personal connection to each of his employees. The characters’ contrasting qualities create a comical work environment that forms a tight-knit family bond between them. The Office runs for a total of 9 seasons and is a must-watch for a lighthearted, humorous time.
Poltergeist
Poltergeist is a 1982 horror film that focuses on the Freelings, a typical suburban family consisting of a real estate agent, a stay-at-home mom, and their three children. Their home is haunted by ghosts, who initially seem friendly by amusing the family with antics such as rearranging their furniture. However, the ghosts’ motive quickly turns sinister when the family’s youngest daughter, Carol Anne disappears, so a team of paranormal investigators is brought in to investigate. Poltergeist develops an intense, suspenseful mood with its special effects and the cast’s authentic, persuasive acting, which keeps the movie from being considered an outdated piece.
Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl follows the lives of socialite teenagers in New York’s Upper East Side. An anonymous but ruthless blogger, who writes under the name of Gossip Girl, exposes the secrets of the overprivileged, private-school students. The drama between the main characters unfolds when Blair Waldorf’s ex-best friend Serena van der Woodsen arrives back in town, unraveling Blair’s seemingly flawless life. The six-season-long series is a fan-favorite with its plot twists, intricate narration, and glamorous lifestyles of the wealthy elite.
Pride & Prejudice
Pride & Prejudice is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel and occurs in 18th century Britain. The main character Elizabeth Bennet lives with her parents and her younger sisters; as the oldest daughter, she is faced with the pressure of marriage as she grows older. The movie follows the relationship between Elizabeth and rich aristocratic landowner Fitzwilliam Darcy as they confront marriage and morality concerns. Many fans believe Pride & Prejudice is one of the best book-to-film adaptations; its accurate retelling and the actors’ personal touches— while maintaining their characters’ core identities— both contribute to the movie’s success.
Back to the Future
Back to the Future, a 1980s sci-fi classic, focuses on Marty McFly, a teenager from a small town in California. Marty is transported into the 1950s when his friend Doc Brown’s experiment goes awry. While in the past, Marty McFly must make the younger versions of his parents fall in love after unintentionally interfering with their relationship. Marty must also eventually get back to 1985 to save Doc from dying like he did in the original, unaltered timeline. Marty’s journey through time entertains all generations with a mixture of comedy, science fiction, and adventure that can be rewatched countless times without growing old.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follows the life of Miles Morales as he adjusts to his newfound powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Spider-Man (Peter Parker) saves Miles while attempting to fight Kingpin’s enforcers, Green Goblin and Prowler. However, after Kingpin kills Spider-Man, Miles tries to become New York City’s new superhero. A particle accelerator brings variations of Spider-Man from different dimensions into the world, who all assist Miles in understanding his unfamiliar responsibility and defeating Kingpin. The movie’s character development and Miles’s relatable personality cause Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to be a favorite of many Marvel lovers.
