4 COVID-19 Safe Activities to do During Holiday Break

Cindy Fu, Writer

Coronavirus has interfered with many activities of our everyday lives. With an extremely long holiday break just around the corner, and life with COVID-19 becoming the new norm nowadays, you might be wondering just how to spend all that time in the break with all the coronavirus precautions. Fortunately, there are several activities you can do to bring flavor to the holiday break!

  • Host a virtual holiday party!

Although this doesn’t sound very fun, it truly is if you fill the party with fun things to do. Will it ever measure up to the joy of in-person parties? Probably not. However, if you get 4-10 friends to join your virtual meeting, it can be extremely fun to socialize and play games! I attended a virtual birthday party for a friend, and it was super fun because the 10 of us all played Among Us while on a call. To be honest, it was the most fun I’ve had since the start of quarantine! There are numerous activities you can do during a virtual party whether that’s playing games or just catching up. There are also computer extensions that, if downloaded, will allow you to watch a movie with your friends.

  • Shop for new clothes!

There’s nothing more fun than adding to your style collection or possibly trying out something new for your wardrobe! The current style trending in fashion right now is “indie”; some websites that sell affordable, high-quality clothing in this style are Target, YesStyle, and, of course, my favorite place to order clothes from, Amazon. There are also many local thrift shops located near us, so those are also where great finds could be!

  • Binge watch a TV show or movie series!

Binge-watching a TV show is always the best option when you’ve got nothing else to do. Over Thanksgiving Break, I watched the show, I am Not Okay With This and I loved it. Some of my personal recommendations for TV shows are One Day at a Time, Pretty Little Liars, Criminal Minds, Gossip Girl, Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, and Young & Hungry

  • Start a passion project!

When you’re in school, you might not have the time to start a passion project, so holiday break is a perfect opportunity to do so. There are countless ways to start developing a passion project! You can further refine your skills or learn a new one! This summer, I forced myself to write with my non-dominant hand, and now I can write semi-neatly with it! Other passion project examples are starting up a business and selling your products or trying to start a club. You can also look for volunteer opportunities during Christmas break to help out in the community! There are always people out there who are in need of help, especially during the holiday season!
