Abington Returns to School
December 5, 2020
On December 2nd, 2020 the Abington School District School Board proposed a plan for Hybrid Learning. The plan was passed by a 6 to 3 vote in favor. This means that Abington School District will now move into the new Hybrid plan. In my last report, I wrote that we all would be returning to school after Thanksgiving break, which was pushed back until December 7th, 2020 because of Montgomery County Health Officials. Since COVID-19 cases were on the rise, they made the decision to shut down schools again in the county until December 7th, 2020.
Explanation of the Updates Hybrid Plan
On Monday, December 7th, elementary school students will return to school following the “A, B & C” cohort system for hybrid learning. On Mondays and Tuesdays, Cohort A will be attending in-person learning while Cohort B will be attending in-person learning on Thursdays and Fridays. Those who choose to stay at home and learn will be in cohort C, which attends online-learning while Cohort A/B is learning in-person. Wednesdays will still be an asynchronous day for elementary school students. These days will be used as a break for the students’ minds and enable the custodial staff to clean the school.
On Monday, February 1st, Abington Junior High School & Abington Senior High School will return to a Hybrid Model similar to the one being implemented at the elementary level. One difference is that the schools will be switching back to 40-minute periods with 4 periods a day compared to the 80-minute periods currently in place. After the four periods, they will have time to eat lunch and go home. Once the students are home, they will have an advisory period followed by asynchronous learning.
