Biden vs. COVID-19
December 5, 2020
Over the past nine months, America has had over 14.2 million cases of Coronavirus and approximately 276,000 COVID-related deaths, leading to many Americans begging for a plan. Although not many COVID-19 regulations have been proposed to prevent further waves of cases, Joe Biden, the U.S president-elect, has recently proposed a plan for stricter coronavirus rules to decrease the number of cases.
First off, Biden’s 100 Day Plan focuses on getting closer to a solution for several issues such as racial equity, immigration, etc. A part of Biden’s 100 Day Plan is handling the coronavirus outbreak. Biden begins by stating how he will implement his plan before he’s even inaugurated.Â
A few days after becoming president-elect, he announced a task force that would work alongside him to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and distributed efficiently. This advisory board would be led by Dr. David Kessler, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Vivek Murthy, the former Surgeon General, and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, an associate professor of medicine, epidemiology, and psychology at Yale School of Medicine.Â
Additionally, Biden’s response plan will create an effective and efficient vaccine distribution plan. His plan would supposedly spend $25 billion for vaccine production and dispersal. To add, the vaccine aims to be accessible to all Americans by having no cost to take.Â
By reaching out to all state governors, he will ask to impose mask mandates throughout their states. If governors refuse this proposal, he will resort to contacting local officials. In addition, the mask mandate will take place in all federal buildings and interstate transportation. The national testing plan, launched by the former vice president, will create accessible testing and will produce 7 million tests a day in the U.S. Biden hopes to increase lab capacities and provide free tests regardless of immigration status. Although the future seems uncertain now, other countries with large population densities have shown that if effective enough preventative measures are taken, the coronavirus doesn’t stand a chance.
